Today we arrived at the Assembly Rooms in Newcastle to greet our judging panel comprising of local football legend Steve Howey, TV favourite Denise Welch, Paralympic hero Stephen Miller MBE, ITV Tyne Tees and Border presenter Pam Royle, Strategic Head of Operations for the North East Ambulance Service Douglas McDougall , TSB Area Director Bev Gibson, Pride of Britain Editorial Director Shiraz Lalani and last year’s winner Lynn Lucas. Our chair Darren Thwaites was unfortunately unwell so Chronicle Live Editor Helen Dalby stepped into the role to head up proceedings.
We are delighted to announce that our Pride of Birmingham Awards in partnership with TSB are back for 2018 and we need your help to find the most deserving and inspirational people to honour. Whether they have overcome adversity to help others, transformed the lives of people around them or displayed life-saving courage in a split second, they will make you proud to be a Brummie, and we want to hear all about them.
22 year old Alex Staniforth has overcome anxiety, depression, low self-confidence, eating disorders, bullying, epilepsy and stammering to raise over £85,000 for charity. This year he was shortlisted from thousands of people in the Pride of Britain ITV regional Fundraiser of the Year category after winning the Granada region award.
