When Russian tanks rolled across the border on February 24, 2022,the watching world feared Ukraine would fall within days, its forces were vastly outnumbered and outgunned on the ground and in the air. But those forces have defied military wisdom, first defending their cities, and then pushing the invading forces back, all across the country.
With this existential battle raging around them, the people of Ukraine have stood proud, responding to aggression not seen since the Nazis ravaged Europe, with dignity, stoicism and even good humour. For the people of Britain, seeing a modern European nation under attack made us all question how we would cope in such horrific circumstances. Ukraine’s men, women and children have given Britain, and the world, a true lesson in courage. As the conflict continues, we owe them all our gratitude.
